Cafe on Park - Review

Cafe on Park ***** stars out of 5
3831 Park Blvd

San Diego, CA 92103
(619) 293-7275

This is easily one of my favorite breakfast places in San Diego. It's located, I believe, around Hillcrest-North Park area and serves up some of the most tasty morning delights you could ever imagine. Because it's in the city you will have to find parking on the street but as soon as you do and pass the crazy S&M clothing store next to it, (don't be afraid!!) you enter into a very small restaurant with local art hanging on the bright walls, some tables and booths and a full bar. That's right - you can get a Mimosa with your breakfast if you so choose to.

The menu is quite large for a breakfast menu and the items sound so good it's often hard to choose what to order. There are countless entries that are slightly unusual but sound fantastic non-the-less. You may be put off because it can be a bit pricey for a breakfast (around $10 per plate) but I assure you it's well worth it. Not only because the food is deliciously scrumptious but because of the mere size it comes in. I have literally brought 3/4 of my meal home only to be scrambled up again the next day - and it still tastes awesome.

I have also been to Cafe on Park for dinner and I'd have to say the same goes for night time. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is a bit quieter since they are really known for their breakfast menu - but I would still recommend it.

So whether it be eggs, Salmon or Bloody Mary's - the cooks and staff can solve all of your breakfast and dinner hungers and then some.

For rating I give it a 5 out of 5

O.B. Donuts Review

O.B. Donuts (Score 4 out of 5 Food Guys)
1830 Sunset Cliffs Blvd # C
San Diego, CA
619) 222-0298

O.B. Donuts is located in Ocean Beach, which is San Diego's hippie hot spot. Ocean Beach is known for their dreadlocks, hairy arm pitted women, bad jam music, fake homeless kids & incense shops. They also have some really really good restaurants. I live close by to OB so I went hunting for a bagel/donut shop nearby. I came across O.B. Donuts and decided I'd give it a shot since I didn't feel like going to boring old wanna bee cool yuppie Einstein's.

O.B. Donuts like most donut/bagel shops in San Diego in that it is owned and operated by an Asian family. I tend to find the donuts boring at mom and pop run donut shops, but O.B. Donuts has some great tasting donuts. The Apple Fritter I got tasted soft, crunchy, moist and sweet. The price for it was normal too at only around $1. In order to wash down that Apple Fritter I also decided to order a #1 which is their Croissant sandwich with Egg, Bacon, Ham & Swiss Cheese. It's a real health nut kind of sandwich :). Wowawee the sandwich was awesome. The ham was soft, the bacon was crispy, the eggs were fluffy & the Swiss cheese was delicious! The price was only $3.95 and it's big enough for two people to share!

It's hard to not like this mom and pop run donut shop, the service and food were great. My order was pretty big, so the owner threw in a few donut holes for no extra charge. You'll never see that kind of service at one of the big corporate run restaurants unless you find a hair in your food. Ocean Beach may be run down, but this donut shop is clean, unpretentious & definitely a crowd favorite.

I give it a score of 4 out of 5 Food Guys!
